Confidential / Independent / Informal / Impartial

The Ombuds Office is a confidential resource available to all faculty, staff, postdocs, and students who are experiencing a conflict or issue that is interfering with their academic or work life at Stanford.

There are two Ombuds Offices at Stanford. This office serves university members outside of the School of Medicine and the SOM Ombuds Office serves the School of Medicine.

Ombuds in both offices will listen without judgment; offer information about policies and procedures, and help individuals identify and evaluate the different options available to address their concerns. The Ombuds Office is also a good place to confidentially raise concerns or recommendations for systems-level change. All meetings are kept strictly confidential and individuals remain in control of how they wish to address their concerns.

Communications with the Ombuds Office does not put Stanford on notice of the communication.

Please note that Stanford Health Care and the Stanford Hospitals are separate legal entities and are not served by either office. Any patient concerns regarding Stanford Health Care should be directed to Guest Services
